Our current plans

Our current plans are to:

  • Work with established organisations, such as the Parkinson's Disease Society, with the intention of encouraging them to be more active on the Internet than they would normally be.
  • Work the individuals or groups who have a good idea and the motivation to take it forward, but lack the technical expertise to fully support their project on the Internet

However, this doesn't mean we won't be doing other things - so if you've got a good idea, tell us!.

Some thoughts about projects we'd support

Resources are limited - we've got enough to make a difference, but not so much that we can afford to do more than "pump-prime" a few projects. So we want to make sure we get decent "bang for buck", and there's a future for the work.

We will favor schemes that:

  • Will do something that normally wouldn't be done without the trust's help. So we aren't going to pay someone to put a brochureware web site up - we want to know what's going to happen that's going to make a real difference.
  • Are likely to be self-sustaining. So we're looking for a commitment from the parent organisation to continue funding (if the project is a success, obviously), or a business plan, or other funding.
  • Add to the existing resources on the Internet, not just duplicating what's there but with a different brand name.
  • Benefit the greatest number of people. Preferably the resource created will be useful worldwide.

There are a few other aspects we'll be looking for; these are mainly around "being a good citizen" in the world:
  • The organisation should encourage other people to build on their work, not look upon others as competition. Projects working to the Open Content license will be looked on very favorably.
  • The organisation should have sensible employment policies which employ people who find working in a traditional office hard due to family or personal circumstances. For example, people with PD, carers, or mothers. There's no reason why this work has to be done in an office, or in normal working hours.
  • We'd prefer the content to be in English. It is difficult to evaluate projects when you don't understand what they are doing, and our language skills are rather poor.
  • The organisation/group proposing them has a clear commitment to the Internet.
