The trust maintains a searchable archive of the PARKINSN mailing list. This facility ensures the valuable discussions that happen on this list are easily available to a wider audience.
Over the past few months we have been engaged in a project to make the archives more valuable for people by linking related articles together in various ways, for example:
- By related subjects/themes
- By author
- By date
This work is ongoing and over the next few months you should see more improvements to this facility, as well as the same techniques used in the trust's other projects.
The long term aim of this work is to make existing information easier to find; to some extent there has already been a lot of information written about Parkinson's, its just a matter of finding it. That is the role of this particular project. Another outcome will be a Thesaurus for Parkinson's Disease (which other groups may find useful) as well as a clear map of available information - making things easier to find, as well as identifying areas where more work is needed.
This work is facilitated by work Simon Coles is doing with NIP, and the trust are grateful to NIP for allowing us to both to influence the development and use the software free of charge. It is true to say that these techniques are "leading edge" and are unusual even in a commercial environment, let alone freely available on the Internet for public forums.
