Current Projects

The trust's work breaks down into 3 areas:

  • Providing funding for selected projects.
  • Supporting various Parkinson's projects by doing the technical aspects, allowing them to concentrate on the Parkinson's Disease issues. This may be hosting (with NIP) the project on the web, writing an application for the web, or designing a web site.
  • Advising groups on Parkinson's/Internet related issues.

The trust is currently involved in the following projects:

  • This web site (http://www.coles.org.uk/)
  • The web site "James" (http://james.parkinsons.org.uk/) which contains a variety of Parkinson's information as well as an organised collection of links to all the Parkinson's resources we know of.
  • Our server Merlin hosts a number of large databases and will be providing various advanced searching abilities.
  • An archive of the PARKINSN list which has been enhanced to make browsing and searching very easy.
  • Working with SPRING on their web site.
  • Working with SPRING, the PDS, and the British library on a project to provide lay summaries of research articles (this project is currently looking for further funding). We're proving technical and Internet-related advice to this project, and have recently provided funding for a medical writer to staff this project for a period of time.
  • We host a number of Parkinson's mailing lists for various volunteers from around the world. These lists are projects of their individual owners; ACMT and NIP ensure they have a reliable place to host their list.
